679,383. Pianofortes. AXTENS, R. A. April 5, 1951. [Jan, 6, 1950] No. 359/50. Class 88 (ii). In an upright or horizontal pianoforte the strings are arranged fan-wise, not overstrung, and pass over a single soundboard-bridge A which crosses the belly-bars B at their centres except in the treble. The bridge-pins pass through the bridge A into the soundboard. The usual metal casting over the soundboard may be dispensed with, the tension of the strings being taken by the frame, Fig. III, which is of metal and comprises a T-section member C, a hitch-plate K and an angle-plate GG<SP>1</SP> to which the wrest-plank is secured. The wrest-plank bridge may be independently secured to the angle-plate GG<SP>1</SP>. Specification 355,816 is referred to.
