[Class 88 (ii)] In grand and upright actions the jack 5 hangs from the hammer-butt 31 and co-operates with an adjustable notch 7 on the under-lever 11 which also carries on a pivot 14 near preferably its rear end the repetition lever 13. The set-off of the jack is produced in Fig. 1 by a screw 26 on the hammer extension, and in Fig. 3 by a fixed screw 39 near the hammer pivot, the repetition lever having been arrested by a fixed stop 24 or 36. The arrangements render the action adjustments more accessible. In Fig. 1, the hammer extension is slotted at 231 to permit access to the screw 4a, the check 22 is carried on the under-lever, and the damper-head is universally mounted at 57. The construction in Fig. 1 may be modified by arranging the screw 21 adjusting the repetition lever control spring 18 in an elevated tail provided on the repetition lever, and the jack may be set-off by a fixed stop near the hammer pivot. The construction in Fig. 3 may be modified, Fig. 4 (not shown), by arranging the jack with the repetition and under levers to face in the opposite direction, an intermediate lever carrying the check being inserted between the key and the underlever, and the jack being set-off either by a tail on the hammer, or by an adjustable fixed stop on the hammer flange Fig. 4a, (not shown), or, according to the Provisional Specification, by a projection on the under lever.
