[Class 88 (ii)] In an instrument of grand piano type, in which the main bridge c is so slightly curved as to be accommodated on a single unjointed plank of the soundboard, the effective keylength diminishes from the middle of the keyboard to either end. The Figure shows the hammer strike line a<5>, a<3>, a<4>, the point a4 at the treble end being nearer the front edge than the point a<5> at the bass end.
