[Class 88 (ii)] In a grand piano of small type the strike line for the hammers is angular, the two parts b, bl of the line being staggered at the angle, as shown, enabling the bass strings to be arranged nearly parallel with the keyboard and thus reducing the front-to-rear depth of the instrument. This depth is greatest at the right-hand side. Specification 462,497 is referred to.
