Abstract

539,971. Pianofortes. JACOBS, M. V. March 29, 1940, No. 13397/39. [Class 88 (ii)] In upright pianos wherein for reducing the height for an effective string length the wrest-plank at the upper end of the frame 13 is disposed with its longer crosssectional dimension horizontally, the wrestpins 18 being vertical or approximately vertical, a short distance below its upper end the frame is formed with an integral horizontal flange 14 extending rearwardly and with integral reinforcing webs 31 in the angle between the flange and the downwardly extending portion of the frame, and the wrest-plank 15 is laid horizontally on the upper face of the flange and securely fastened to it as by bolts 16 and screws 17. To protect the strings as they pass from the pins to the brass bolster 19 a metal guard 32 is screwed to the wrest-plate and extends the length of the frame. The sound-board 25 is fastened to the frame by bolts 29 and distance-pieces 30.
