Abstract
679,091. Mixing appliances. PIRELLI SOC. PER AZIONI. March 27, 1951 [Nov. 7, 1950], No. 7100/51. Class 86 A composition having a basis of rubber or a like plastic is formed as a tubular casing containing additional ingredients to be mixed therewith, the unitary tubular formation being fed as such into a continuous-operation mixer. As described, a continuous strip 2 of the rubber or other plastic is fed on to an endless belt conveyer 1 which conveys the strip 2 past a series of rolls 3 which constitute the scale of a weighing apparatus 4. After passing the weighing apparatus 4 the strip passes beneath one or more feeders 5, 6 for the additional ingredients of the composition to be formed, said feeders 5, 6 being adapted to feed at an accurately predetermined rate bearing a fixed ratio to the rate of feed of the strip 2 past the feeders, under control of the weighing apparatus 4. Thereafter a series of rolls 7, 8, 9 10 raise the edges of the strip, bringing them together and a pair of pressure rollers 11 bring the adjacent edges into union with one another so that the materials are fed into the mixer in the form of a hose-like casing 12 of rubber or like plastic completely encircling the ingredients which have been deposited on the strip from the feeding devices. The tubular formation may also be formed from two separate strips by superimposing one strip upon the other strip on to which additional ingredients have been fed.
