Abstract
1,002,509. Hoppers. ARMSTRONG CORK CO. March 7, 1962, No. 8841/62. Heading B8S. [Also in Division B1] Material in the form of large chips and small granules of different colour used in the manufacture of mottled linoleum is uniformly premixed and fed through tubes 9 terminating in a header 10 into a hopper 5 having two converging walls 6, 7 forming a slot 8. The material is fed through the slot 8 on to an endless belt 4 where it is slightly compacted under a metering roll 17 and then transferred to a backing 2. To prevent segregation of the large chips and small granules in the hopper 5 by the chips sliding down the sides of heaps formed under the tubes 9, a plate 12 carries the tubes 9 and the header 10 and is reciprocated on rollers 12 by a crankarm 14 to level the material in the hopper 5, thus maintaining uniform mixing.
