Abstract
679,057. Fuselages. FAIREY AVIATION CO., Ltd. May 2, 1951 [May 3, 1950], No. 10920/50. Class 4. [Also in Groups XXVI and XXVIII] A fuselage is formed in two folding parts 10a, 10b, hinged about an axis X-X normal to, but displaced from, the longitudinal axis, the mating faces being in the form of transverse apertured members 15, 16 each having a series of transversely projecting wedges 17, 18 arranged, when the fuselage is in its flying position, to register with the corresponding wedges on the other member, and to be engaged by movable clamps 25 which draw the pairs of wedges towards one another and secure the two parts of the fuselage together. The wedges 17, 18 are formed on the interengaging ends of the jet pipe 11a, 11b, the arrangement enabling the fuselage to be shortened for storage purposes and facilitating the withdrawal of the jet pipe and the removal of the engine rearwards. As shown, the portions 10a, 10b, of the fuselage are separated or brought together by a hydraulic jack 12, and the clamps 25 are carried on arms 23, 24 operated through links 26, 27, 28, 29 by a second jack 32 mounted on the forward (fixed) portion 10a. In addition, the jack 32 operates, through links 33, 34, latch pins 35, 26 engageable with lugs 29, 40 on the movable fuselage portion 10b.
