Abstract
951,330. Aircraft. VICKERS-ARMSTRONGS (AIRCRAFT) Ltd. March 19, 1962 [Dec. 19, 1960], No. 43673/60. Headings B7G and B7W. An aeroplane comprises a body or fuselage 20 (Fig 1), main wings 21, 22 which may be pivoted about points 211, 221 into an outspread or a swept-aft position, and fore-wings 23, 24 which are capable of being moved into inoperative positions subsequent to or concurrently with the forward sweeping movement of the main wings This arrangement prevents pitching of the aircraft when the main wings are in the outspread or low-speed position As shown in Fig 1, the fore-wings comprise guide members which slide in tracks 26 arranged within the fuselage; when the main wings move into the outspread position, the fore-wings are automatically retracted by means of links 27. Means including a catch lever may be provided to enable the main wings to be folded back to a fully swept position for hangar stowage &c. In a modification, Fig 11, the fore-wings 123, 124 are hinged so as to be folded down alongside the body or into recesses, and are moved by fluid-pressure jacks 31, 32
