Class 20(iv) [Also in Group XXV] A tie-rod for use in reinforcing concrete, in structures comprising glass or other transparent or translucent blocks wherein and in steel structures, is tensioned by a concrete filling is used between the blocks, cam-member 34 revoluble on the rod 31 and having a cam face 18 which engages a similar face on a cam-member 35 which abuts against the work. The rod is provided with heads 32, 33 and the members 34, 35 may each have a radial slot in a valley between cam protuberances to enable them to be threaded on the rod after the formation of the heads. The cam slopes may be symmetrical with regard to the crests, or as shown in Fig. 6, one side only of each protuberance is sloped. More than one set of cam-members 34, 35 may be arranged on each rod, either at one or both ends of the rod. Three cam-members, the middle one having cam protuberances on both faces, may be used. Each cam-member may have more than two protuberances. One cammember may be formed on an abutment plate or on the head of the tie-rod.
