Abstract

678,946. Thread guides. COURTAULDS. Ltd., HAZELEY, E., and STOKES, W. H. Feb. 16, 1951 [Dec. 6, 1949], No. 31262/49. Class 120(ii) A traversable guide device delivering thread to a rotating box in a machine for the wet spinning of artificial fibres comprises an eye 1 and an unbreakable holder 2 for the eye 1, so constructed that the eye provides a single contact only with the thread and the thread cannot normally make contact with the holder 2. The eye 1 is preferably made of glass or of a precious or semiprecious stone and its inner surface may be regular or irregular. It is held in a four-pronged claw 6, or an equivalent member, and so arranged that it may be released in circumstances of exceptional strain. A series of eyes 1 may be provided appropriate to different deniers of thread. In an example given, the central hole may be 0.1 inch in diameter. Stainless steel or another metal resistant to any chemicals with which it may be splashed may be used for the holder 2 which may have an upper collar 2a provided with a lip 3 and projection 4 for supporting the device on a traverse rail 5. In an alternative form, a rod is employed to connect the collar 2a to the lower part 2b.
