Abstract

An aqueous emulsion of a terpolymer of acrylonitrile, butadiene, and styrene is made by polymerizing a mixture of the monomers in aqueous emulsion using as emulsifier a paraffin sulphonate, obtained by the sulphochlorination of paraffin oil and subsequent alkaline saponification, as catalyst, either benzoyl peroxide and paraffin oil sulphinate, or potassium persulphate and triethanolamine, and, optionally, a modifier, e.g. xanthogen disulphide. The emulsion, admixed with colouring matter, is used for treating leather.
