Abstract
678,400. Control of A.C. motors. ELECTRIC & MUSICAL INDUSTRIES, Ltd. Feb. 1, 1951. [Feb. 1, 1950] No. 2558/50. Class 38 (iii). [Also in Group VIII] In a washing machine of the type having a power-driven rotary impeller whose direction of rotation is periodically reversed, the impeller makes a number of revolutions in each direction before reversal. As shown, the impeller 6 is horizontal, is surrounded by a guard 7 and is driven by belt 8 from a split-phase induction motor 11 whose direction of rotation is periodically reversed by a switching arrangement, Fig. 2. In Fig. 2, a timing device 19, e.g. a synchronous electric motor across the mains 30, 31, is arranged to close contacts 22, 23 for the desired washing period, and to move contact 28 alternately between 27 and 29. This places the condenser 18 alternately in series with the motor windings 16 or 17 to produce periodic reversal of the motor.
