Abstract

678,214. Selvage shedding-mechanism in looms. REED & SONS, Ltd., W., and STANWORTH, A. June 27, 1950 [June 28, 1949], No. 17045/49. Class 142(i) A selvage shedding-mechanism arranged to weave a plain selvage is altered to weave a selvage having two picks in the same shed by disconnecting two parts of a shaft passing transversely of the loom, and operating the selvage shedding-mechanism, and adding members that operate each shedding-mechanism alternately. A shaft A operating selvage harness M<SP>1</SP> at each side of the loom is disconnected to form two shafts by sliding along the shaft a split sleeve N and two collars N<SP>3</SP>. A pinion O is fixed to the loom bottom shaft E and meshes with a wheel O<SP>1</SP> on a bracket P. A link O<SP>4</SP>, connected at one end by a pin and slot connection O<SP>5</SP> to an arm O<SP>6</SP> on one part of the shaft A, has its other end connected to a pin O<SP>2</SP> on the wheel O<SP>1</SP>. A second link operates the other part of the shaft A and is connected to a pin Q caried by a crank arm O<SP>3</SP> on the pin O<SP>2</SP>. Means may be provided to hold one part of the shaft A stationary until one of the pins O<SP>5</SP> has reached one end of its slot in one of the pin and slot connections. Similar means may be provided for the other part of the shaft A.
