Class 126 In a domestic fireplace having a grate d above a sunken ashpit c to which combustion air is supplied from beneath the floor through a pipe a fitted with a control valveg, increased fuel capacity is obtained by providing a front plate or fret f extending across the fireplace opening above the hearth e. The fret f is preferably lined with firebrick and in the form shown has formed integrally therewith a quadrant k over which moves the handle i for operating the valve g. In a modification the valve rod h extends upwardly through the fret itself and terminates in a knob or ring. Specification 470,395 is referred to.
