Abstract

Fire-resistant materials containing selenium and cadmium contain also vanadium compounds which are added to the colouring materials during the preparation thereof in quantities of 0.5 to 3 per cent by weight as vanadium pentoxide. In an example a mixture of cadmium sulphide, black selenium powder, ammonium nitrate and ammonium vanadate are heated at 750-800 DEG C to produce a fire-resistant bright red colouring material very suitable for colouring enamels, glazes and glasses.
