Abstract
576,335. Glass batches. STEVENS, A. H. (Garco Products, Inc.). Nov. 30, 1943, No. 19988. [Class 56] In a process for preparing a glass batch all the insoluble constituents of the bath are in a finely comminuted form and are mixed with the water-soluble constituents to give a coherent mass which is then nodulated. As an example, in a glass batch of the following composition Sand 1000 parts by weight Soda Ash 415 " " " Dolomite 245 " " " Feldspar 100 " " " Saltcake 12 " " " Nitre 3 " " " Arsenic 1 " " " the sand, dolomite and feldspar in a finely divided slate are mixed with the soluble soda ash, saltcake, nitre and arsenic and 15 per cent to 20 per cent of water in an edge runner mill to give a coherent mass which is then nodulated in a rotary kiln. The addition of finely ground glass or in some cases boric acid, is stated to give a chemical set to the nodules.
