Abstract

676,842. Valve generating circuits. STANDARD TELEPHONES & CABLES, Ltd. July 21, 1950 [Oct. 20, 1949], No. 18293/48. Class 40 (vi). In a multi-valve oscillator system, each valve is associated with a number of resonant circuits and a coupling of an odd number of half-wavelengths is arranged between circuits of different values to stabilize the frequency and phase of the generated oscillations. Two magnetrons 13, 14, Fig. 5, may be coupled over a coaxial path 20 of adjustable length. If the cavities 16, 22 are to be in-phase then the path is an even number of wavelengths, but if there is a phase reversal in the coupling, the path is made an odd number of wavelengths. Similar couplings 26, 27 are provided for connection to further magnetrons while output is taken from the guides 32, 34. A number of magnetrons may be arranged in a ring, Fig. 4 (not shown), with different lengths of coupling to reduce the possibility of the system operating at an undesired frequency. Coupling between non-adjacent magnetrons may be employed and a number of couplings may be joined at a common point, Fig. 6 (not shown). Two magnetrons may be coupled over two paths of dissimilar length, Fig. 7 (not, shown).
