676,400. Claw clutches operating clutches. SMITHE MACHINE CO., Inc., F. L. Sept. 18, 1950 [Nov. 8, 1949], No. 22859/50. Class 80 (ii). [Also in Groups VIII and XXIX] A clutch for controlling the sliding movement of the cutting table of a press (see Group VIII) for cutting a stack of paper comprises a motordriven worm gear 28 which is rotatable on a shaft 136 and has an upstanding annular wall 144 provided with blocks 146, projecting angularly therefrom into driving relation with an arm 154 pivoted at 160 on a collar 142 fixed on the shaft 136. A spring-pressed pin 160 in the collar 142 urges the arm 154 clockwise so that, when transmitting the drive to the shaft 136, its outer end engages the inner surface of the wall 144 and is engaged by one of the blocks 146. When one of two diametrically disposed pins 172, 172A is moved downwardly into the path of the arm 154, the latter is swung out of engagement with the block 146 and the drive is uncoupled. Each of the pins is controlled by a solenoid through link and lever mechanism arranged so that, when one pin is moved upwardly to permit the drive, the other is moved downwardly to stop the drive after one half of a revolution.
