Abstract

676,096. Venting; vent &c. covers. CHURCHILL, H. W. S., and SCHOFIELD, C. S. June 24, 1949 [July 16, 1948], No. 19131/48. Class 21 [Also in Groups XVIII, XXV and XXVIII] Apparatus for dispensing jelly-like and liquid substances such as soap paste (see Group, XVIII) comprises a chambered body 1 with a socket for receiving the open end of a container 4 which holds the substance to be dispensed. A vent pipe 77 opens from the body 1 and extends into the container and has a rubber cap 79 to prevent entrance of soap paste. The cap is reduced in diameter near one end and has to be stretched to fit over the part of the vent pipe above a hole 80 therein, but over the hole 80 the cap is not tight and air passing up the vent tube can escape but soap paste cannot. penetrate far enough into the cap 79 to pass through the hole 80 into the vent tube. According to the Provisional Specification a conical plug valve may be fitted at thetop of the vent tube connected by a cable with a cylindrical plug in the lower end of the vent tube which is positively moved at each dispensing operation.
