675,738. Magnetic recording apparatus. ATELIERS DE CONSTRUCTIONS ELECTRIQUES DE CHARLEROI. Feb. 1, 1951. [Feb. 3, 1950] No. 2505/51. Class 40 (ii). A support for magnetic recording, reproducing and erazing heads in a magnetic recording machine employing a magnetisable sheet on a revolving cylinder, is characterised in that the magnetic recording and reproducing head is mounted on a first member which is pivoted on knife edges which are displaceable in a direction at right angles to the longitudinal axis of the cylinder in order to obtain optimum recording and reproducing conditions, the erazing head being mounted on a second member pivoted on knife-edges movable with the aforesaid knifeedges, means being provided to move the second member both at right angles to its knifeedges and parallel to the longitudinal axis of the cylinder. The embodiment described comprises a carriage 1 which is displaceable parallel to the longitudinal axis of the cylinder 2, and carries a housing 12 on which the heads are mounted. The recording and reproducing head 20 is mounted on an approximately elliptical member 19 pivoted on, and held by a spring 22 against, knife-edges 21 on a plate 18 which is adjustable towards or away from the cylinder 2 by a screw 17 passing through an elongated hole 18 in the plate 16, the optimum position of the knife-edges 21, dependent on the position of the gap 35, being determined by electrical measurement. The erazing head 24 is mounted on a member 25 similar to the member 19 but is provided with a number of notches 28, one pair of which engage knife-edges 26 on the plate 16 for obtaining the optimum position, dependent upon the position of the gap 35 and the setting of plate 16. The member 25 is adjustable in a direction parallel to the axis of the cylinder 2 by means of an adjustable pallet 30 which engages a central recess 29, Fig. 2, in the member 25 and can be swung around its fixing screw 31 until the path traced by the erazing head 24 on the cylinder 2 coincides with that of the recording and reproducing head 20.
