Abstract
790,230. Magnetic recording and reproducing apparatus. ENGLISH ELECTRIC CO., Ltd. March 8, 1956 [March 10, 1955], No: 7115/55. Class 40 (2). In a magnetic record apparatus means for adjusting the position of the transducer 11 with respect to the surface of a cylindrical record medium 10 comprise arms 12, 13 pivoted at an elbow Q and movable in a plane perpendicular to said surface, the end of the rear arm 12 remote from the elbow Q being arranged to pivot about a fixed axis R parallel to said record surface, and the end of the forearm 13 remote from the elbow,Q carrying the transducer 11, which is independently adjustable about its own axis P. A micrometer screw 14 is provided to readjust the distance of the pole tips N of the transducer 11 from the record cylinder 10. Figs. 2 and 3 (not shown) show a practical embodiment in which the transducer is a multiple head for recording and reproducing parallel tracks. The adjustment about axis R is in effect a coarse adjustment, and the adjustment about axis P a fine adjustment of the circumferential position of the pole tips N on the record cylinder N. Fig. 4 (also not shown) shows practical details of a micrometer adjusting screw. Specifications 775,101. and 783,794 are referred to.
