773,905. Magnetic tape recorditig and/or reproducing apparatus. PHILIPS ELECTRICAL INDUSTRIES, Ltd. Dec. 3, 1954 [Dec. 8, 1953], No. 35060/54. Class 40 (2). A device, for use in magnetic tape recording and/or reproducing apparatus, for adjusting the position of the air gap 4 of a magnetic head 1 with respect to that of the magnetic tape 3, comprises an adjustable support member, as shown a plate 2, to which the head is secured and which is angularly movable about two intersecting axes a-a, b-b, one a-aof which extends through the air gap 4, three independently-adjustable members, as shown screws 6 . . . 8, securing the plate 2 to a housing 5, and resilient deformable means, as shown compression coil springs 9, 10, separating, and with the screws 6 . . . 8 determining the spacing between, the housing and the plate, one, 7, of the screws being located at the intersection of the two axes and the other two, 6, 8, being located one on each axis. By this device adjustment of screw 6 or 8 pivots the plate about axes b-b or a-a to vary the angle of the gap 4 with respect to the tape 3 while adjustment of all the screws in the same sense and by equal amounts varies the height of the head without changing the orientation of the air gap.
