Abstract
675,093. Fixing handles; screwdrivers. ATKINSON, E., and ATKINSON, A. Jan. 19, 1950 [Jan. 27, 1949], No. 2320/49. Classes 61 (i) and 61 (iii). In screwdrivers wherein the handle has an opensided slot 2 to receive the flattened tang 9 of the stem 7, the tang increases in width towards the upper end and is held in the slot by a pin 15 and by a ferrule 4 secured to the reduced end 3 of the handle by pins 16 passing through registering holes in the tang, the handle and the ferrule. The stem increases in diameter from the blade towards the tang, shoulders 12 being provided at the junction of the tang which abut the extremity 13 of the handle. In a modification, Fig. 3, the tang has an enlarged shouldered end 10 which is positioned in the upper part of the slot, the shoulders on the tang engaging the end 5 of the ferrule. In another modification the ferrule and tang are equal in length.
