Class 135 [Also in Group XI] In a safety device for gas-heated appliances having a plunger 1 depressable against a spring 23 to open a normally closed valve 4 in the gas supply 11 to the main burner 15 and pilot burner 12 and thermostatically-actuated latch means, e.g. the electromagnet 14, responsive to the heat of the pilot flame for holding the valve 4 open, a rotary control knob 20 and cam means actuated thereby are provided for depressing the plunger. The knob rotates a sleeve 19 having a helical cam slot within a fixed sleeve 22 having a straight slot, so that a rod 16 having a pin 17 passing through both slots depresses the plunger. Contact 24 on the plunger bridges contacts 25, 26 to ignite the pilot burner electrically.
