635,098. Igniting gas burners. BRAMSON, H., and BRAMSON, M. Aug. 1, 1947, No. 21039. Convention date, May 27, 1946. [Classes 75 (i) and 75 (iii)] [Also in Group XXXVII] A safety control system for gas burners comprising main and pilot burners comprises a thermally operated pilot controlled switch which when the pilot flame 22, Fig. 1, is not lighted closes the circuit of electric ignition means 43 for the pilot burner and de-onergizes a solenoid controlled valve 50 for supplying fuel to the main burner 10 only, when energized, and when the pilot burner 22 is lighted opens the ignition circuits and closes the solenoid valve circuit. Gas is supplied through the inlet 16 to a main valve 14 having a control spindle 15, which when turned into the valve opening position engages a contact 25 and completes the secondary circuit of a supply transformer T, Fig. 5, from earth through contacts 15, 25, movable contact 30, contact 31, ignition coil 43 to earth. The pilot burner 22 becomes ignited and heats and expands a U-shaped thermal element 45 so that an adjustable element 47 at its free end 46 moves to permit the contact spring 30 to disengage the contact 31 and to engage a contact 32, thereby breaking the ignition circuit and energizing the solenoid valve 50 through a lead 49 to admit gas to the main burner 10. A time clock 51 adapted to close and open the circuit at designated times and a thermostatic regulator 52 may be provided. An alternative control system is described in which the valve 14 is replaced by a solenoid actuated valve.
