Abstract

674,066. Boring heads ; tool - holders. LUCAS, J. April 5, 1950 [April 27, 1949], No. 11125/49. Class 83 (iii). A boring-head or a tool-holder comprises a shank 2 having a socket 3 to receive the tail of a tool 5 or a carrier therefor, and set-screws 6, 7 in the head for engaging opposite sides of the tool &c. to adjust it angularly and laterally of the direction in which the cut is being made. The screws 6, 7 lock the tool against a convex edge 8 on the wall of the socket which may be closed by riveting, welding, or otherwise securing a pad on the open side thereof so as to closely house the tool. A clamping-screw, perpendicular to the screws 6, 7, is provided for the tool. In a modification, the socket 3 may be formed by milling or slotting and the wall thereof carrying the screw 6 formed separately to be secured in position by welding, riveting or other means.
