673,792. Magnetic amplifiers. SPERRY CORPORATION. Nov. 3, 1950 [Dec. 7, 1949], No. 26865/50. Class 40 (iv). [Also in Groups XXXV, XXXVIII and XL (c)] A servo amplifier in an automatic system for controlling a ship's steering (see Group XXXV) comprises a differential magnetic amplifier having two D.C. control windings 50 and 60 and two D.C. output circuits 51-58 and 61-68 whose respective rectifiers 53-56 and 63-66 are so connected that the currents in coils 51, 52 and 61, 62 are in opposition, the two output coils 56 and 57 constituting the windings of a differential relay 70 so that the relative amplitude of the currents in coils 57 and 67 and hence the direction of operation of relay 70 depends upon the direction of the resultant current in control windings 50 and 60.
