Abstract

673,488. Electric resistance furnaces. CESKOSLOVENSKE ZAVODY TEZKEHO STROJIRENSTUI, NARODN I PODNIK. May 8, 1950 [May 31, 1949], No.. 11371/50. Class 39(iii) The incandescent tube in a carbon resistance furnace utilizing a protective or reaction gas is protected against local oxidizing caused by impure protective gas by drying out and purifying the gas and directing its flow so that it does not impinge directly on the exterior surface of the resistance tube. In the Figure, hydrogen is fed into the sight-tube 1 of a pyrometer from where, through a tubular carbon insert 2, it flows via openings 3 into an annular space 6 formed round a resistance tube 5. In passing through the hot carbon insert 2, harmful oxygen or water vapour still remaining in the hydrogen reacts with the carbon to form hydrocarbon and carbon monoxide.
