481,283. Furnace atmospheres. GENERAL ELECTRIC CO., Ltd., and JENKINS, I. July 7, 1937, No. 20304/36. Drawings to Specification. [Class 51 (ii)] A gas for use as a protective atmosphere in the bright annealing of metals such as brass, is produced by burning with air a sulphur-free gas containing both carbon and hydrogen, cooling the products to separate out most of the water vapour, reheating the products to a temperature at which hydrogen and carbon dioxide will react together, and again cooling to remove most of the water vapour formed by the reaction. An apparatus is described in which the reheating of the products is effected in a tube passing through the combustion chamber for the gas and air. Reference has been directed by the Comptroller to Specification 445,537.
