Abstract
500,467. Carbon black. AUERGES. AKT.-GES., (formerly DEGEA AKT.-GES.). Sept. 21, 1938, No. 27557. Convention date, Oct. 12, 1937. [Class 90] Rubber-active gas black is obtained by . vaporizing anthracene residues in the presence of combustible gases having a carbon monoxide content below 25 per cent. and preferably below 20 per cent. e.g. illuminating gas or coke oven gas and passing this gas mixture with the exclusion of gases containing free oxygen to bored burners having a diameter not exceeding 0À75 mm. or slot burners having a width not exceeding 0À5 mm. where it is partially burnt with restricted quantities of air and the black is deposited on cooled surfaces. The heated combustible gas is preferably passed over as large a surface as possible of the heated anthracene residues and the temperature of the mixture during passage to the burners is maintained up to about 350-400‹ C. A suitable mixture contains' 400-600 gms. of vaporized material, per cubic metre of gas mixture.
