673,276. Tempered glass. SOC. ANON. DES MANUFACTURES DES GLACES ET PRODUITS CHIMIQUES DE ST.-GOBAIN, CHAUNY ET CIREY. June 2, 1950 [June 2, 1949], No. 13901/50. Class 56. In a method of regulating the stresses and stabilising the structure of a tempered glass article the whole article is subjected, while at a temperature at which the viscosity of the most highly tempered portions is between about 10<SP>15</SP> and 10<SP>17</SP> poises, to the action of a high frequency alternating electric field. The duration of the treatment is preferably of the order of a few seconds. The glass is first brought to the required temperature by any method of heating, and the diathermic action of the high frequency field may be employed with advantage since once the suitable temperature has been reached the same field will be suitable for. applying the temper drawing treatment. Good results have been obtained using fields having a frequency of the order of 10 megahertz.
