Abstract

673,107. Fuel-injection pumps. PAL, UNITED WORKS OF CAR & AIRCRAFT EQUIPMENT, NATIONAL CORPORATION and BOTTGER, J. Sept. 16, 1949, No. 23931/49. Class 102 (i) The delivery valve 1 of a fuel-injection pump has a cylindrical portion lapped to fit a housing 3 and has one or more grooves 9, of triangular cross-section which gradually increases towards the bottom of the valve. The apex of the triangle has an angle between 60 degress and 90 degrees and the bottom edge of the groove is inclined at an angle of 15 degrees-30 degrees to the axis of the valve. An annular groove 12 intersects the groove 9. The valve is loaded by a spring 8 and an annular surface 2 forms an abutment. The housing 3 has an annular groove 4 communicating through passages 5 with the delivery. The lift of the valve increases with the speed of the pump and determines which part of the grooves 9 and 12 co-operate with the groove 4 and thus vary the quantity of fuel that can leak back from the delivery pipe after each injection.
