The breast pockets 11, 12 of a brassiÞre are formed of two superimposed layers of material united at their lower edges and sides, the inner layers 17 having central openings 18 and being connected to shoulder straps 21, 22 to which the outer layers 19 are also joined, these layers 19 having greater vertical extensibility than the inner layers. This extensibility may be provided by elastic tapes 25 having hooks at their upper ends adapted to engage the top corners of the inner layers 17 or the shoulder straps, or sewn thereto. Alternatively, the outer layer or the upper part thereof may be made of extensible material e.g. fabric incorporating elastic yarn. Seams 20, joining upper and lower parts of the outer layers may also join the inner and outer layers at the sides of the openings 18. A removable waterproof shield 27 may be secured between the two layers of each pocket by a snap fastener 28 provided on a tab 29. In a modification, a halter may replace the shoulder straps.
