2 Claims.

This invention relates to novel and useful improvements in garments.

An object of this invention is to supply means for attaching conventional brassiere straps to the marginal strip about the body portion of the said brassiere.

Another object of this invention is to resiliently support the brassiere straps.

Another object of this invention is to provide an improved brassiere having means for providing additional comfort to the wearer, particularly active persons such as Waitresses, athletes and the like.

A still further object of this invention is to provide an improved brassiere adapted for general utility for the general purposes intended for garments of this nature.

Other objects and features of novelty will become apparent to those skilled in the art, in following the description of the preferred form of the invention, illustrated in the accompanying drawings, wherein:

Figure 1 is a rear view of the preferred form;

Figure 2 is a front view of the invention illustrated in Figure 1;

Figure 3 is a perspective view of the garment;

Figure 4 is an enlarged sectional view taken substantially on the line 44 of Figure 3 and in the direction of the arrows, and

Figure 5 is an enlarged sectional view taken substantially on the line 55 of Figure 3 and in the direction of the arrows.

The preferred form of the invention has means incorporated therewith for improved attachment of conventional straps to the brassiere body portion to provide an improved suspension of the said body portion from the said strap.

The body portion generally indicated at H! is provided with the usual configuration formed by the seams I2, I4 and [6 as well as I8 respectively in the appropriate portions of the said body to form breast pockets. It will be noted that the preferable form of the invention includes a relatively Wide body portion for additional support beneath the arms of an individual wearer of the garment.

A marginal strip 20 extends around the upper edge of the said body portion ['0 and is attached by means of stitching or the like. A lower marginal band generally indicated at 22 is preferably formed of three

24 and 28 flank the said portion 26 which is of course the central portion. Stitching or the like may be used in connecting the lower marginal strip tothe main body portion [0.

A notch is removed from substantially the central portion of the said element or portion 26 and a resilient filler member 30 is supplied therein. The usual stitching 32 is used in connecting this resilient element 30 and it will be noted that

34 and 36 respectively are supplied adjacent the said stitching 32. This construction affords the necessary resiliency at this portion of the garment.

The upper marginal strip 20 and the lower support band or marginal band 22 cooperate with the said main body portion [0 to form the major elements of support. However, there may also be provided shaping

38 and 40 respectively which are stitched in the main body portion adjacent the marginal strip and connected with the marginal strip 20.

Referring to Figures 1 and 2 it will be noted that a tab 42 is supplied at one end of the main body portion [0 as well as the lower support strap or band 22 and upper marginal strip 20. Conventional fasteners 44 are secured to this tab for cooperation with a hook 46 which is attached to the upper marginal band 20 adjacent the opposite end thereof.

46 and 48 respectively are attached to the upper marginal band 20 at one pair of ends thereof while the opposite ends are connected with the upper marginal band 20 as is illustrated in Figure 5.

A loop of resilient material, preferably of an elastic constituent, is indicated at 50 and is stitched to the upper marginal strip 20 by means of the

52, 54 and 56 respectively. A slot 58 is provided in the loop 50 for the reception of the strap 48 and a portion of the strap extends between the fold of the said loop 50.

Conventional stitching

60 and 62 respectively preferably in rows, attach the said strap 48 Within the slot 58 of the said loop 50. By this construction a resilient connection is supplied for the

46 and 48 in association with the marginal strip 20.

Of course, the above described structure is duplicated for each strap to complete the construction of the garment.

While there has been described and illustrated but a preferred embodiment of the invention, it is apparent that variations may be made without departing from the spirit thereof. Accordingly, limitation is sought only in accordance with the scope of the following claims.

Having described the invention what is claimed as new is:

1. In a brassire including a body portion having ends, breast pockets and an upper marginal strip extending from end to end and projecting upwardly from said body portion, a shaping strap disposed above said pockets and below the center part of said strip, said shaping strap being secured to said strip at its lower edge and to said body portion at its upper edge in the region directly above said pockets, shoulder straps each attached to said marginal strip adjacent the said ends of the body portion, and resilient means for attaching said straps above the center of said pockets, said resilient attaching means including resilient members attached to said marginal strip, said straps being passed through and attached to said resilient members, and a support band extending from end to end and projecting below said body portion and attached to said body portion along the edge opposite said marginal strip and having a resilient section therein.

2. In a brassiere including a body portion having ends and an upper marginal strip extending from end to end of said body portion and projecting upwardly therefrom, shoulder straps each attached at one end to said marginal strip adjacent the said ends .of the body portion, a shaping strap secured to th front of said body portion below said strip, and resilient means for attaching the opposite end of each shoulder strap adjacent the center of said body portion, said resilient attaching means including loops of resilient material attached at their free ends to said upper strip, said shoulder straps being passed through and attached to said loops, and a lower support band having a resilient section stitched to said body member.
