Abstract

672,394. Valves. NAAMLOOZE VENNOOTSCHAP DE BATAAFSCHE PETROLEUM MAATSCHAPPIJ. March 20, 1950 [March 21, 1949], No. 6901/50. Class 135. A drain valve for a tank comprises a screwed actuating spindle 13; a lift valve member 17 normally closing the outlet 15 and provided with an upstanding stem 18 which has lateral and longitudinal lostmotion connections with the spindle 13, and a spring 23 loading the member 17, to the closed position, the arrangement being such that, on rotation of the spindle 13, it is advanced longitudinally and the member 17 is also positively rotated to remove any dirt from the valve seat. The lower end of spindle 13 and the stem 18 are rectangular in cross-section and are connected by a rectangular tubular member 19 which has a pin-and-slot lost-motion connection with the stem 18 or the stern 13. There is a slight lateral play between the valve closure member and the actuating stem to allow the closure member to adjust itself to the seat. The spindle may be successively rotated and given an axial movement by means of a fixed pin co-operating with an appropriately shaped groove in the spindle. In a modification, the tube 19 is omitted and there is a direct pin-andslot connection between the members 13, 18, the stem 18 sliding in a recess in the spindle 13. The closure member 17 also carries depending guide fins.
