Abstract

672,312. Fluid-blast circuit-breakers. AKT.- GES. BROWN, BOVERI, & CIE. Dec. 23, 1949. [Dec. 24, 1948] No. 33013/49. Class 38(v). In a gas-blast or other circuit-breaker wherein each pole is separately actuated by electrically remote-controlled valves b1... b3, the poles .are additionally coupled by a pneumatic system which ensures the opening of all poles, if one or more fails to open or close. The main valves b1 ... b3 each supply operating and arc-extinguishing gas, and are operated by control valves d1 ... d3 having operating solenoids p1 ... p3. Pipes f1 ... f3 connect the contact chambers a1 ... a3 or the contact sides of valves d1 ... d3 to a control apparatus g, which has three valves i1 ... i3 normally spring-biased to the upper position. If an opening order is given but the pole a, fails to open, the pressure in pipes f1, f2 keeps valves i1, i2, in their upper position but the gas moves valve f3 to its lower position, Fig. 3. Gas thus passes into pipe h and to pistons e1 ... e3 so as to open the control valve of the faulty pole. Gas also passes through a pipe n' to the left-hand side of a piston k1, and through an opening o to the right-hand side of a piston k11 so that an indicator m is moved to the "faulty" position F. When all the poles are open, the indicator is in position A, and when all are closed, it is in position E. A time element q in the pipe h delays the opening of the poles to allow for a single-phase fault causing the opening of one pole clearing on reclosure. One or more of the contacts of each pole may be hollow, and liquid may be used instead of gas. The supply of gas to valves i1 ... i3 may be controlled by valves located on the switch poles and controlled in dependence on the, contact position.
