Abstract

672,002. Soldering. UNION CARBIDE & CARBON CORPORATION. Nov. 14, 1950 [Nov. 18, 1949; Oct. 23, 1950], No. 27745/50. Class 83 (iv). [Also in Group XXXV] In order that electric leads may be soldered to a carbon commutator (see Group XXXV) the carbon cylinder 10, which is subsequently slotted to form segments, is notched at one end 21 to receive the wires and coated with copper 22. The copper is enabled to adhere to the carbon by coating with molybdic acid, and firing at 1200‹ C. in a reducing atmosphere to produce a layer of molybdic carbide to which the copper can adhere.
