1,133,218. Cathode heaters. SYLVANIA ELECTRIC PRODUCTS Inc. 20 Dec., 1965 [18 Dec., 1964], No. 53974/65. Heading H1D. [Also in Division C7] A cathode heater wire, e.g. of tungsten, with an insulating oxide coating, e.g. alumina, is dipped, except at the ends, in a tungsten ioncontaining solution and the dipped wire fired in a reducing atmosphere to convert the ionic tungsten to metal and so darken the insulating coating. A solution of ionic tungsten in a polar solvent may be used, e.g. phototungstic, aluminotungstic, or tungstosilicic acid or ammonium metatungstate or a mixture of two or more thereof may be suspended in methyl or ethyl alcohol, water or acetone, with preferably not less than 0À25 gram atom of tungsten per litre of solvent.
