[Also in Groups XXII, XXVIII and XXIX] In a fluid-pressure jack of the kind in which a piston rod e is moved outwardly by compressed air admitted through a port 14, and is retracted by a spring 11, a hole 16 being provided to vent air from the cylinder during the working stroke ; the piston rod has an extension c which is guided in a sleeve 8. The piston consists of a pair of plates a, b which sandwich a sealing ring 6, and the plate a is of such dimensions that it will not pass into a recess 13 which is provided to ensure that a large area of the piston is operated upon at the start of the working stroke. The jack is stated to be used to clamp material in a working position on a drilling or milling machine and is suitable for use in a pneumatic vice.
