670,494. Food powders. NEEF, F. Dec. 24, 1947 [Nov. 22, 1946], No. 34134/47. Class 49. Food powders, to be taken directly or after incorporation into hot or cold milk, tea or water, are made by condensing whole milk, adding to the condensed milk an alkaline solution containing citric acid, sodium carbonate and calcium oxide, and again concentrating by agitating and heating in vacuo, saccharifying malt solution by means of acid, e.g. by heating with citric acid, mixing the saccharified malt solution with the milk-containing concentrate, adding to this mixture comminuted fresh fruits, e.g. strawberries, blackberries, raspberries, apricots, which have been deacidified, e.g. by heating with sodium carbonate and sodium bicarbonate, drying the mixture so formed, preferably in vacuo, and grinding the dried product. The powder may be compressed to tablets or cubes. The Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 comprises mixing the saccharified malt solution with milk treated with any alkalinely reacting solution to extract the fatty substances, and also with fruit generally. This subjectmatter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
