Abstract

670,356. Friction clutches. BORG-WARNER CORPORATION. June 15, 1949 [June 22, 1948], No. 15942/49. Class 80 (ii). A sheet metal clutch driven disc 9 is slotted to form circumferentially waved cushion elements 10 themselves slotted to provide flat tongues 27a, 24a, 25a, 28a forming extensions of flat and consecutively axially offset areas 27, 24, 25, 28 acting as supporting surfaces for friction facings A, B attached'to the elements 10 by rivets 12, 13. The elements 10 are attached to the main body of the disc 9 by slotted necks 22. The disc 9 and a sheet metal washer 18 are mounted on either side of a hub flange 7 and co-act therewith through springs 19 housed in and retained by circumferential slots in all three members 7, 8, 9. Spacer rivets 20 passing freely through slots 21 in the flange 1 rigidly connect the disc 9 and washer 8.
