Abstract
670,014. Transformers. BRITISH THOMSON-HOUSTON CO., Ltd. Jan. 13, 1949 [Jan. 13, 1948], No. 986/49. Class 38 (ii). [Also in Group V] A transformer, more particularly a current transformer, comprises a bar-type high voltage winding 2 associated with a magnetic core 17, a low voltage winding 18, 19, 20 between the core and the high voltage winding and surrounding the core, the core and the windings being embedded in a body 1 of resilient, weather resistant insulating material such that the material forms the major insulation between the three components and also forms the entire outer covering of the transformer. The windings and the core are assembled in their relative positions in a mould and a moulding compound, such as rubber isobutylene, is forced into the mould under high pressure so that it fills the cavities between the windings and the core and also forms an outer casing around the assembled components. The moulding is then cured or vulcanized for a requisite time at a high temperature. In a modification is described a current transformer with a multi-turn primary winding.
