Abstract
669,603. Transformers. PHILIPS ELECTRICAL, Ltd., and LATIMER, K. E. Nov. 7, 1949, No. 28524/49. Addition to 669,596. Class 38 (ii). In a transformer for transmitting electric pulses, of the kind which forms the subject of the parent Specification, wherein a permanent magnet is incorporated so that both halves of the magnetization curve of the core are used, a magnetic shunt is interposed between the core part carrying the windings and the permanent magnet. The core parts associated with the windings are a central rod 1, a surrounding cylinder 7 and an end disc 5 with gap 6 for the leads, carried on an insulating ring 14 inside a container 15 closed at its lower end bv a disc 16. The shunt 9 comprises a ring surrounding but separated by an airgap from a cylindrical core part 2 which carries permanent magnet 8. A steel yoke 11 completes the magnetic circuit and closes the upper end of container 15 which is filled with oil. Copper washers 10 screen permanent magnet 2 from the varying pulse field. The core and shunt parts are so designed and the permanent magnet 2 is such that in the absence of a pulse a flux # is produced in both main path 1 and shunt 9, while during the pulse the flux in path 1 is reversed to - # and the shunt carries flux 3#. The core and shunt - parts 1, 2, 5; 7, 9 are of ferrite and do not saturate in the working range. Specification 669,571 is referred to.
