A binocular attachment for microscopes comprises a casing housing a beam splitting prism system and is characterized in that the two oculars are carried by the cover of said casing, said cover being rotatable about an axis passing normally through the centre thereof, and in that one ocular is rotatable relatively to the cover about an axis which is parallel to the axes of said oculars and the axis of rotation of the cover and is spaced therefrom. The attachment shown is suitable for inclined observation and includes a casing 1 attachable to the body of a microscope and housing a prism system. This system consists of a rhomboid prism .10 and two prism members 8, 9 having a partially reflecting interface 8<SP>1</SP> on which are incident light rays which pass from the microscope through a glass block and are reflected internally by a further prism 12 (Fig. 2, not shown), so as to be inclined to their original direction. The prism 8 and one ocular tube 4 are fixed to the cover 3 of the casing 1 and the prism 10 and ocular tube 5 are mounted eccentrically on a disc 3<SP>1</SP> which is mounted in a recess in the cover for rotation about an axis B parallel to and spaced from the rotary axis E of the cover 3 so that ocular tube 5 may be rotated relatively to the cover to vary the interocular distance indicated by a scale 17.
