Abstract
668,343. Electro-acoustic couplings. DUSSIK, F. Oct. 3, 1949 [Oct. 4, 1948], No. 25389/49. Class 40 (iv). [Also in Groups VI and XL(b)] In a supersonic wave generator, primarily for therapeutic use, a piezo-electric plate is resiliently mounted and the front, edge and back are enclosed in separate closed chambers containing respectively a liquid for transmitting the vibrations, an insulating liquid and air. The quartz crystal 1 is clamped between synthetic rubber rings 4, 5 which are in turn held between a transparent insulating plate 6 and an annular metal frame 7, these also being separated by a further rubber ring 8. The central aperture of the plate 7 communicates with a glass tube 23, closed at its outer end by a rubber membrane 24, and the enclosed space is filled with water, to conduct the vibrations to the membrane and thence to the patient. The transmission space may be in the form of an elongated tube for particular applications and, if desired, a membrane 29 may be placed across the lower end of the tube 23.
