Abstract

<PICT:0668236/III/1> For the colorimetric determination of pH values, the liquid under test is drawn continuously under syphonic action through a transparent worm 5 from constant-level tank 3, an indicator, e.g. cresol red, also being continuously drawn into the worm through pipe 8 from tank 9, and a plurality of sealed tubes such as 10, 11, 12, containing a liquid coloured by the indicator to a shade the intensity of which varies progressively along the series to correspond to increasing pH values as shown by the indicator, being postioned between the convolutions such as A, B, C of the worm, so that by a simple colour matching operation the pH value is readily determined. Syphonic withdrawal is maintained by priming pipe 6.
