An overhead line switch or trolley-guide switch for trackless vehicles comprises a resilient tongue-like switch member 4 which is deformable in the horizontal direction only, one end being deflected by the actuation of switching means while the other is clamped rigidly to the underside of the tensioned main or straight-through trolley wire 1 by clamping members 3, Figs. 2 and 3, the lower side of the tongue 4, which is engaged by the current collector, being shaped to correspond to the cross-section of the trolley wire. The free end of the switch member 4 is movable relative to switch parts 5, 5<SP>1</SP> which are fixed on a switch structure 7 (shown in plan) in Fig. 4, attached to the straight trolley wire 1 by clamps secured by pairs of screws 74, 75. Straight line and branch members 6, 6<SP>1</SP> conterminous with the switch parts 5, 5<SP>1</SP> are also clamped to the straight and branch trolley lines 1, 1<SP>1</SP>. Deflection of the switch tongue 4 to position 4<SP>1</SP>, Fig. 1, may be effected electrically by a solenoid 12 which swings a bell-crank 10 in opposition to a tensioned spring 11, thereby acting upon an arm 41 which is rigid with the switch arm 4 and deflects the latter into alignment with the member 5<SP>1</SP>. The extreme positions of the movable switch member may be limited by stop plates which may be attached either to the structure 7, or the intermediate members 5 or 5<SP>1</SP>. In a modification, Fig. 5 (not shown), the switch member is deflected when a trolley travelling on the branch towards the straight portion strikes against a lever arm adjacent to the intermediate switch member.
