Abstract
939,234. Electric trackway for toy vehicles. D. K. GOWLAND, and C. W. ROBINETTE. Jan. 25, 1960 [Jan. 26, 1959], No. 2620/60. Class 132 (3). An electric trackway for toy vehicles comprises track members 1, 2, Fig. 1, having means for connecting them together and conductive track elements 5, 6 of springy strip material embedded with their planes vertical in grooves 3, 4 in a base of electrically insulating material, each conductive element projecting from each end of its track member and having bent ends which form resilient contacts and apply spring pressure mutually to two connected track members. As shown, the trackway has a groove 7 for guiding projections from a toy vehicle and the upper edges of the conductive elements are substantially flush with the surface of the track members. The track members 1, 2 are located in position by interfitting pegs 8, 9 and recesses 10, 11 and are connected by a link 14 having lugs 16, 17 which fit recesses 18, 19. In an alternative connection, a hooked member 62, Fig. 6, is engageable behind a flange 64 of a pivoted disc 65. A screwdriver slot 68 allows the disc to be rotated. A track switching member is provided at a branched track section and comprises a substantially triangular element 32, Fig. 4, which is movable to block either the straight or the curved section. The element is mounted on a plate 33 which is spring-urged at 57, Fig. 3, and connected by a thread 51 to a control unit, Fig. 5. The thread is secured to the unit and is acted on by a peg 50 on a disc 46 rotatable by depressing a flanged part 47 or 47a. The track members may be made from mouldable synthetic plastic, and the grooves may be formed in ribs projecting from the underside of the track with electrical conductors connected through openings formed in the ribs to the conductive track elements. Alternatively, the base may be sufficiently thick to accommodate the grooves. The current source may be an A.C. generator.
