1336543 Model railway points C K EDWARDS and L D EDWARDS 3 Feb 1972 [29 July 1971] 5145/72 Heading A6S To ensure electrical connection between the movable rails 24, 26, Fig. 2, of model railway points and the main lines 16, 20; 18, 23, respectively, according to the direction in which they are set by turning about a fixed pivot 30, either the movable rails 24, 26 are themselves resilient and yield as their ends engage the main lines, or alternatively the pivot connection 62, &c, Fig. 6, embodies a spring 82 to bias the rails 24a, 26a, which are relatively movable, towards each other. The points are operated by selective energization of solenoids 36, 38, Fig. 2, to slide an armature rod 40 and turn a bellcrank 44 about its pivot 46, thus sliding a link 54 having a pivot connection 56 to an H-member 32 secured to the ends of the movable rails 24, 26; an over-centre tension spring (58), Fig. 3 (not shown), below the bellcrank 44 and connected between one end 50 of the latter and a fixed point, biasses the bellcrank and the rails 24, 26 one way or the other, into firm electrical connection with the main lines 16, &c. In the alternative embodiment, the spring 82, Figs. 6, 7, engages over two fingers 78, 80 of similar plates 70, 72 secured to the two movable rails 24a, 26a, and biasses these rails towards each other. A fixed pivot 62, secured by a screw 64 to the main frame of the points, passes through slots 66, 68 in the plates 70, 72, allowing relative movement between the rails 24a, 26a.
